Director

“At Challenges Abroad, we believe one student, one team, one programme can be a catalyst for change. Over the past 10 years, we have sent out thousands of students and seen them grow as global citizens and develop as future leaders. The impact that our volunteers make in our partner communities continues to be inspiring. Volunteering abroad gives you the chance to challenge yourself, experience new things, and realise your potential to create positive change in the world. We believe that together we can make a difference and build a brighter future in our partner communities.”

“It’s my belief that each one of us needs to play our role to tackle the challenges we face around the world. Whether it be the challenges of climate change, access to quality education or economic inequality we can all make a difference. Through small changes comes big impact. At Challenges Abroad we are committed to developing global citizens who are able to define their purpose, share their passion and put their mission into practice as leaders of the future. We would like to invite you on our journey together, to create a better world and become part of a community of people who care.”

Lizzie George

Head of Further Education Programmes

“The opportunity to travel not only opens your eyes to the wider world, it allows you to step out of your comfort zone and learn more about yourself than you could imagine. It is a privilege to work with students, from the moment they first hear about Challenges Abroad, to the moment they touch back down in the UK after their incredible Summer Challenge. It only takes one student to make a huge difference overseas and I am so excited to invite you to be a part of our programmes.”

Adam Fear

Student Engagement Manager

“Hello, I’m Adam and I am the Student Engagement Manager, working on all things university sales and marketing in the Midlands and North regions.

As a recent graduate myself, I am passionate about helping others make the most out of their university experience, both on a personal level but also on an employability level, and really believe in the value of contributing to your ‘whole’ university experience. I am excited to be able to share my passion for these exciting opportunities and inspire the next cohort to take part in such incredible programmes.

I look forward to being able to meet so many of you on the beginning of your journey and support you taking your first steps along the many excitements of the Challenges Abroad journey! “

Martina Mabale

Student Engagement Manager

“I came to England four years ago to pursue my dream and study Politics to then hopefully change the world (as cliche as it might sound), and here I am, four years later joining an organisation just as dedicated to bringing change. If you’re a student from a university within the South of the UK and you’d like to do something completely different while making an impact, I’m here to support you with everything you need to know about Challenges Abroad and our seven destinations! Feel free to drop me an email”

Kirsty Thomson

Programme Coordinator

“Hello, I’m Kirsty and I am the Programme Coordinator for the UK universities. After graduating from university, I decided to act upon my passion for travel by solo backpacking around Southeast Asia for 5 months.  During my trip I spent some time teaching English to children in Laos which was an incredible experience. It was the best 5 months of my life and I learned so much about myself and the diverse cultures of these countries. I am incredibly eager to inspire others to step out of their comfort zone and experience a different culture while giving back to communities in need. I am very excited to meet students and support them through every step of their challenge with us! “

Our programmes support the FutureSense Foundation, a registered charity that supports community development in some of the poorest regions of the world. Our partnership ensures all of our programmes have a long-term, sustainable impact on the communities where we work.

Safety and Support

Challenges Abroad ensures the safety of its participants through 24/7 support, carefully selected and monitored locations, direct involvement in programme development and implementation, expert preparation, and ensuring that you are well prepared to embark on the challenge.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

It is our core belief that all children and young adults have a right to protection and that welfare is paramount. We ensure that we have effective policies and processes in place that protect the children, young adults and communities that we work with.
