Explore Cambodia:
Making the Most of Your Free Time
Cambodia, with its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes, offers endless opportunities for adventure and relaxation. Whether you’re exploring ancient temples, indulging in delicious local cuisine, or experiencing the warm hospitality of the locals, there’s always something to captivate you. In this blog, we’ll highlight various activities to enjoy during your free time in this enchanting country.
Let’s dive in and discover the best ways to make the most of your time in Cambodia!
1. Get Cooking
Why not try your hand at cooking? Cambodia offers a variety of cooking classes for those eager to dive into traditional Khmer cuisine. It’s a great way to pick up new skills and impress your friends with exotic dishes when you return home. Some classes even begin with a trip to a local market, where you’ll gather fresh ingredients while learning about local customs, vegetables, and spices. Our go-to spot in Battambang is Smokin’ Pot, where you can try your hand at making fish amok curry and cooking it in a banana leaf. While mastering this technique might take a few attempts (with some torn banana leaves along the way), you’ll be an expert by the end. The best part? After all the hard work, you get to sit down and enjoy your homemade amok with perfectly steamed rice!

2. Visit Siem Reap
Siem Reap is a must-visit destination in Cambodia, renowned for its lively night markets and entertainment options – the energy is contagious! Its bustling centre is lined with an array of cafes, restaurants and shops, creating a vibrant atmosphere that draws both locals and tourists alike. Whether you’re looking for souvenirs for friends and family or want to let loose and belt out your favourite songs at a local karaoke spot, this is a great weekend spot to unwind, experience more of Cambodia’s unique culture and make lifelong memories with your fellow Global Citizens.
For those seeking a more laid-back experience, Siem Reap also offers numerous opportunities to relax and recharge. You can indulge in a soothing massage at one of the many nearby spas, where skilled therapists provide traditional Khmer treatments. Alternatively, you can take a leisurely stroll through the local markets and explore unique handicrafts, sample street food and soak in the lively ambience.
3. Discover Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat is undeniably Cambodia’s most iconic landmark, located just a short drive from Siem Reap! This magnificent temple complex is not only a UNESCO World Heritage site but also a symbol of Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage and architectural prowess. While the main temple is the centerpiece of the site, visitors can explore several remarkable temples nearby, including the famous Ta Prohm, which gained international fame as a filming location for the Tomb Raider series, as well as Bayon Temple (our personal favourite), which has 200 carved rock faces smiling down at you. As you wander through these ancient ruins, you’ll be captivated by the intricate carvings and stunning architectural details that reflect the ingenuity of the Khmer Empire.
Exploring Angkor Wat presents a fantastic chance for a group outing brimming with laughter, shared experiences, and unforgettable moments. This iconic site guarantees both adventure and enlightenment, making it an essential stop on your journey through Cambodia.
