Cambodia

Explore a nation of remarkable history, warm hospitality, and meaningful discovery.

Welcome to Cambodia, a kingdom of ancient wonders & timeless charm!

Cambodia offers a rich combination of culture, history and community, with our programs based in two distinctive destinations: Battambang and Kampot.

From Battambang’s riverside setting and rich cultural heritage to Kampot’s relaxed atmosphere, countryside and local communities, each destination offers a different experience of Cambodian life.

There is also plenty to experience beyond your program. Discover the majestic temples of Angkor Wat, sample authentic Cambodian cuisine, wander through lively markets or experience the energy of Phnom Penh. Whether you’re discovering Cambodia’s history, connecting with local communities or enjoying its landscapes and culture, there is plenty to experience along the way.

Our Impact in Cambodia

Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge history (1975-1979) has caused ongoing social and economic challenges. Despite progress, many marginalised groups still need support to escape poverty.

Our programs allow Global Citizens to work alongside local communities, gain practical skills and contribute in a different cultural setting. Through meaningful interactions and hands-on learning, they develop a deeper understanding of the communities they are part of, the challenges they face and the difference they can make.

Where You'll be Based

Depending on your program, you’ll be based in either Battambang or Kampot, giving you the opportunity to experience Cambodian culture and community life while taking part in your program.

Battambang

Cambodia’s second-largest city, Battambang sits along the Sangker River and is known for its French colonial architecture, Buddhist temples, traditional arts and surrounding countryside. The city offers a welcoming setting to experience local life and connect with the community.

Outside of your program, you can take a ride on the famous bamboo train, visit the bat caves, join a traditional cooking class or discover the surrounding countryside.

Kampot

Set along the Kampot River and surrounded by countryside, mountains and pepper plantations, Kampot offers a relaxed setting with plenty of opportunities to experience local life. Its French colonial architecture, local markets and riverside setting give the town a distinctive character.

In your free time, you can visit a pepper farm, enjoy the river at sunset, discover the surrounding countryside or take a trip towards Bokor National Park.

Choose Your Trip

“I loved every minute of my trip, from the range of different temples that we visited to working in 2 different schools with my classmates. Cambodia is a beautiful place and with Challenges Abroad there to support us it created a comfortable and homely feel to this experience. I would highly recommend.”
