Thailand
Known as the “Land of Smiles,” Thailand offers bustling Bangkok, serene Phuket beaches, and lush Chiang Mai mountains. From ancient temples to world-famous street food and crystal-clear waters, Thailand promises unforgettable adventures.
About Thailand
Thailand has enchanted travellers for decades, boasting a rich history that seeps into day-to-day life. The country maintains strong elements of the Buddhist religion, which has undeniably helped shape many aspects of its culture, from the food to the stunning architecture. It’s easy to see why Thailand draws all types of travellers and earns its spot amongst the world’s top 10 most popular destinations. With endless stretches of white sand beach, vibrant forests, and cities to get lost in, there’s always something new to discover.
By joining our Challenges Abroad Thailand trip, you’ll experience the best of what the country has to offer, while making your time there impactful and meaningful for the communities we work with. You’ll see beyond what the average traveller sees, venturing into the lush hills of Northern Thailand, home to the seven Hill Tribe communities.
Hill Tribes are distinct ethnic groups, who lived for hundreds of years relatively isolated from the rest of Thai society, integrating more in the last 70 years. They maintain distinct languages, cultures, and customs, which you’ll become immersed in. Staying with either the Karen or Lawa people, this is an opportunity to gain real insights into the lives of these groups and some of the challenges they face.
We encourage you to really strip back to basics, by eating local foods and staying in traditional accommodation. Our Elephants and Hill Tribes challenge is designed to push you towards a more rewarding travelling experience.
We know you’ll want to explore more of this beautiful country, so why not combine your Hill Tribes experience with a trip to Koh Samui? Thailand’s second-largest island is a quintessential tropical paradise, where you’ll be welcomed by towering palm trees, fresh locally grown fruits, and deep golden sunrises over the peaceful water. We can add a stop to Koh Samui, or many other locations, as part of your trip to round off your time ethically and sustainably.
