Cambodia
Welcome to Cambodia, a kingdom
of ancient wonders & timeless charm!
Discover the majestic Angkor Wat temple complex, sleepy beaches and bustling capital city, Phnom Penh. You might also have heard of Siem Reap, a backpacker favourite for its mixture of culture, nightlife and culinary treats. Whether you’re wanting to tick sunrise at Angkor Wat off your bucket list, interested in finding out what authentic Cambodian tastes like, or ready to explore the infamous night markets, this is a travel destination that truly has something for everyone.
Our Impact in Cambodia
Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge history (1975-1979) has caused ongoing social and economic challenges. Despite progress, many marginalised groups still need support to escape poverty. Our programs aim to rebuild community capacity with sustainable solutions in education, health, and livelihoods.
- Our programs are focused in the Ek Phnom District, just north of Battambang city.
- We support 10 rural villages in the district, where a majority of the families live below the poverty line.
Where You'll be Based
Just 3 hours from Siem Reap, our Challenges Abroad projects will take you to Battambang City, the second largest city in Cambodia. Although known for its French colonial architecture, Buddhist temples and Hindu statues, Battambang really feels more like a riverside, country town. Spend your evenings with traditional cooking classes, a ride on the bamboo train and a visit to the bat caves is an absolute must do!
Developing Key Skills
Your Global Citizenship journey in Cambodia isn’t just a once-in-a-lifetime travel adventure – it’s a transformative experience that will help you grow personally and build essential employability skills! Here’s how:
- Leadership: Guide and inspire others in impactful initiatives.
- Confidence: Gain a sense of achievement and enhanced self-confidence.
- Adaptability: Adjust to new surroundings and limited resources.
- Teamwork: Collaborate with global changemakers on community projects.

Cambodia is a beautiful place and with Challenges Abroad there to support us it created a comfortable and homely feel to this experience. I would highly recommend.”
